What is Common Knowledge?

Common Knowledge is Sacramento's premiere bar lecture series. Common Knowledge brings the most interesting thinkers, experts, and researchers into bars to give lectures on diverse topics from Brain Science to Shakespeare. We are building a community around curiosity and learning new ideas. That’s why our motto is “Drink Together, Think Together.”
What Happens at Common Knowledge?

Before the lecture begins we'll have music, interesting trivia questions, and an optional "side quest" question you can answer to win a free drink. The lecture is 45 minutes with 15 minutes of Q&A. After the lecture the speaker will stick around to mingle and answer your questions.
Do I need to know anything about the topic?

NO! Our lectures are designed for a general audience so you don't need any science background to have a great time. If you’re curious about the topic, then Common Knowledge is for you.

I'm coming alone. Is that weird?
It's extremely normal and, frankly, kind of a power move. A lot of people come by themselves (it’s a great place to meet like minded, smart people). You'll end up talking to a stranger about parasites or 17th-century poison, and it'll probably be a better conversation than your last five first dates.

Do I have to drink alcohol?
Not even a little. Every venue we partner with has great non-alcoholic options. Order a cocktail, a mocktail, or a sparkling water - and some nibbles too! Nobody's counting, and nobody cares. You do you.

What if I show up late?
Doors usually open an hour before the lecture so there's a full hour of mingling, trivia, and a chance to grab a seat. Showing up "on time" for the lecture itself still means you basically made it. We won't make it weird.

Is this 21+?
Yes — every CKL event is 21+. We're a bar lecture series who serves adults.
